Conversation with Aidan last night about the baby:
Chad: "Aidan, what do you think we should name your baby sister?"
Aidan: "Maybe Dora."
Chad: "Really? Any other ideas?"
Aidan: "How about we call her Arthur? Yeah, I am going to call her Arthur."
Chad: "..."

Christmas
This post contains an enormous amount of photos, just so you know. We had a lovely Christmas this year, as usual. We spent it with family all over. First, we went to JC the Monday before Christmas. Lizzy came down and we had a great dinner and then lots of presents...
Aidan was so excited. He didn't seem to understand that you don't open up your toy that you just unwrapped and play with it because there are more to open. So that slowed things down a bit ;)
Grandma and Grandpa got us all fabulous things and we had a BLAST. I believe I look like Santa Claus with my big ol' red sweater lol.
We finally brought them into the 21st century and got mom and dad a DVR. Dad was still taping his tv shows to a VCR. Now we will see how long it takes them to figure out how to use it...
Aidan got an awesome Handy Manny motorcycle from his motorcycle-great-grandpa in Texas. He LOVES it
Brad got Lizzy a beautiful necklace. He is overseas right now so that was really great for her.

Chad and Rico hanging out...
We had Christmas Eve at our house. Chad's parents were planning on coming down from Iowa that night, but Mother Nature had other plans. Iowa was supposed to get massive snow and wind so they left Wedsnesday afternoon. They ended up getting like 17 inches of snow at their home so they were really glad they headed our way!! Christmas Eve we went to church and out to dinner at Applebee's. Aidan was so excited to have them here!
Aidan was a lot better at opening presents at our house. He wanted to help everyone open their gifts as well.
Chad totally rocked for Christmas this year:) I got FABULOUS Ugg boots...
...and a little blue box of PERFECTION from Tiffany & Co...

He got me a gorgeous ring. Aidan and I got Chad a new Kershaw knife for hunting and some SmartWool socks.
Aidan got a new "rainbow" that proved to be quite the weapon. That sucker shoots waaaay better than his last one! I only got shot once by Chad and Aidan since we arent supposed to shoot people lol...

Aidan was in charge of the "big reveal" for Chad's present from Grandma and Grandpa...
ta-da! A Craftsman Power Washer!!
Christmas day we headed to St. Louis to have our Van Roekel Christmas. We all went to Lee and Brandi's new house. Aidan was so excited to see his cousins.
Lee's big reveal was his new Toro lawn mower!
Papi was enjoying his comfy chair by the fire!

Grandpa and Grandma opening their present from all of us: a gas fireplace converter/thingy/no idea what you call it (it turns their regular fire place into a gas one)

Hurray, photos!
So I still have not found our missing camera cord, but luckily borrowed someone's that works! I have lots of photos to follow so be prepared. Let's begin waaay back before Thanksgiving at our local Christmas parade. This could not have been a better day. It ended up being like 65 degrees out. Not very Christmas-y, but very nice for mom and dad to stand for over an hour in :)
We have Thanksgiving at our house so that means we were going to have about 14 people over. Chad's parents came in a couple days before to start prepping everything. Well prepping included cooking turkeys. We (again by we, I mean they as we know I do not cook) made 2 18 lb turkeys. The first one went off beautifully, the second, well the second has officially scarred my son in all things turkey and grease. We fell into the statistics of grease fires on holidays. The little bag thingy (I am sure there is a more technical term for this apparatus) that the turkey cooks in, popped sending grease everywhere, and therefore, mighty flames...and smoke...Exhibit A:
At this point, I ever so slightly ran downstairs where Chad and his brother were with this, "Um, can you please come upstairs, I believe we have a fire..." Those flames were HIGH, lol. The little boys started freaking out and smoke was filling the house, so I told them to grab their shoes and coats and we went out front (at this point, the fire was not contained yet so I didn't know if we would be involving fire trucks). Aidan was flipping out of course. So here are the boys...Fire Exhibit B:
Here they are up close and personal (the editing on this pic went all crazy so don't mind the weird colors)...you can see Aidan in there somewhere :)
While we were outside avoiding smoke, this was the scene inside. They couldn't find the flour fast enough, so the next best thing was...Bisquick.
If you can see very well, this is what our poor oven looked like after the flames died out. In between the Bisquick and here. Chad ran next door to find flour from the neighbors. Of course, Mr. Non-dramatic has this conversation with Eric next door:
Here is Lee inspecting the damage...
Ah, the aftermath...
You would never believe (or you would if you knew her) that Ruthie spent the entire night cleaning that sucker and scrubbing and whatever else you do so that it was sparkling. The oven was nicer post-fire than before! Besides the massive smoke stink in the house, you would have never known what happened. I am sure Ruthie wished it would have stayed that way, but it was too crazy not to document :) Not to mention, Aidan kept asking her, "Grandma, why did you build a fire in the oven?" And then the next day as everyone came, "Did you know Grandma made a BIG fire with the turkey??" It was so funny. He even offered his fireman hat to her.
Chad: "Hey do you guys have any flour we can use?"
Eric: "Sure, hold on a sec."
Chad: "Um, yeah we have a fire."
Eric: "Oh lord, okay."
It was much funnier in person as Chad leads our kind neighbors into thinking we are just baking up a storm and ran low on flour. PS WE HAVE A FIRE. So Chad comes back with flour and two seconds later, here comes Eric and his brother with like 3 fire extinguishers. Thank the lord. It really was quite hilarious once I realized our house wasn't going to burn down.
So Thursday arrived and everyone came. This was the first year that the whole Van Roekel side got to be together since Lee and Brandi and the boys just moved back to Missouri. It was Chad's parents, my parents, Lizzy, Mark and Rebecca, Lee & Brandi and boys, Brandi's dad, and my grandpa Hogue. It was really neat to have everyone together. My mom brought these up for the three boys:
They LOVED the little turkey cupcakes. Pretty sure Aidan and Preston ate more of that than anything else :)

Update without photos
Even though this isn't nearly as exciting without photos, I thought I would at least jot down what we have been up to for the past week or so. Last weekend, I took Aidan to Jeff City to see Grandma and Grandpa while Chad was hunting in Illinois. We went one night to Living Windows downtown. MY LORD it was cold. We made it a whopping 30 minutes (enough time to circle the block back to our car) and headed to their house for some good indoor fun. Aidan wanted to stay the night so he had a sleepover and the next day I came back to go with Grandma and Aidan to the Christmas parade. It was an evening parade so was not sure what exactly to expect. It was freezing, but Aidan LOVED it and we watched the whole entire thing. Mind you, this had to have been one of the longest parades I have ever attended. It was neat though because all the floats had lights and stuff so that was fun. Chad came home that Sunday and Aidan was so excited to see him. He had been gone since Wednesday.
Let's see, anything else to report...well Chad had posed a challenge to me/us on eating out (ha). Going out to eat is probably my most favorite thing in the whole world. Why? Don't know if I have ever talked about it here, but I don't cook or bake or whatever it is you do in the kitchen. I mean, I can boil water, and occasionally I can manage to pull a bag of popcorn out of the microwave without it being attached to three-foot flames, but other than that Chad does all the cooking. In return I do all the, well, the... I can't really talk about what I do in return because this is a family-friendly website read every morning by my mother and father. So let's just say that my husband is well compensated. Ha, ha. So yeah, this eating-in challenge is no easy thing for me! BUT let me tell you this, I have made dinner at home this entire week (dinner is our downfall because seriously after working all day, the last thing anyone wants to do is spend time WORKING on food). So there, Chad! Pretty sure he may be close to speechless at this point. We will see how long this lasts, but I am pretty impressed with myself :)

Baby Info
I had a doctor's appointment last week. Baby is doing super. Heartrate was 158-162. We have our ultrasound this month so that should be exciting! So far I have gained 3 lbs (who knows how long I will be wanting to remember that information, let alone publish it). I have finally started feeling better. The sick feeling is letting up mostly, but I got a nasty cold this past week so that is not fun. I am just glad to not be sick every second though!!
Aidan has only 2 more swimming lessons left for this year. We are going to sign him up again in January to keep him in the water. He is just starting to really feel comfortable so hopefully we will keep it up!
Not much to report in this one, just wanted to get my baby info update. I have Thanksgiving photos and stories concerning The Great Turkey Fire 2009 coming soon :)
