Conversations with Aidan

Grandma and Grandpa VR took Aidan to school this morning on their way out of town. They were planning on getting up and taking him right over to school. Well the little negotiator talked them into breakfast at McDonalds first of course. He was sad to see them go and this is what he said:
Aidan: Are you going to pick me up? You can go home after you pick me up after school
Grandma: No, we have to go home
Aidan: Okay, are you going to come back when my baby comes.
Grandpa: Sure buddy, we will come back when your baby comes.
Aidan: Oh well my baby is coming after school...
Grandpa: Buddy, if your baby comes after school, you call me and I will head right back over here :)

Sneaky little fella...

Snippet of the Weekend

This weekend Chad's parents came to visit on their way home from St. Louis. We were all over the place! We went to Bass Pro because that is where Aidan wanted to see the Easter Bunny (not to mention you get FREE photos with the bunny, as opposed to the mall where its like $20 for a cheap pic). He made a little craft while he was there. We went to Menard's to get some "supplies" for the weekend home activities. Chad and his dad installed knobs and handles on all our kitchen cabinets and drawers. We were looking for the stone we want for our backsplash, but no one seems to have what we want exactly. Did some furniture shopping/looking. We are in major need of new living room furniture. Well mostly a new couch, but you can't just replace the one piece obviously. We also went to the Glo-Golf at the mall. I took some pictures and let me just say that I am glad it is pitch dark in there because what the REAL place looks like courtesy of my flash, is icky. LOL this first pic I had to put on because it looks like Chad and his dad are ghosts or something. No idea how or why it did that! Aidan is quite the little golfer. Of course, Chad was so proud ;) Grandma and I were spectators this time around.

My picture skills this weekend were not so super. I really didn't get a chance to take many so there aren't many "quality" shots to choose from :)
After golfing we walked through the mall. We ran into Aidan's buddy Connor and fam while by the carousel. So Aidan took a spin with Connor...
The valence for Baby VR's room FINALLY came in and so that was hung up. Her room is done officially now so yay. Aidan spent lots of the day yesterday playing outside with Grandpa. This week is supposed to be GORGEOUS so we are excited for lots of outside time!!! Not much else going on. The grandparents are leaving tomorrow. Aidan won't know what to do with himself :)

Alice in Wonderland

Last night, Chad and Aidan entertained themselves while I went to a movie with my friend, Nicole. I really wanted to see the new 3D Alice in Wonderland, and clearly this would not be a movie my dear Chad would be interested in. First, let me tell you, it was $11.50 a TICKET for this movie!! GOOD GRIEF. I understand it is 3D and all, but seriously!! It's been on the news yesterday and this morning that theaters are hiking ticket prices for all these new fancy-shmancy 3D movies (some are even charging $17 a ticket!!), but I think it is ridiculous. So anyways, we get the popcorn, etc (PS after that, this little evening out cost me $22 for ONE PERSON, SMALL popcorn and a Diet Coke) and head in. I was excited as I have never seen a 3D movie and I LOVE Alice in Wonderland (well the cartoon, Disney-version). Needless to say, this was NOT the regular story. I would say it was more like a "sequel." It was okay. I was disappointed. It was very neat to look at, I guess is the best way of saying it. Johnny Depp was fantastic and Helena Bonham Carter rocked as the Red Queen. Other than that, it was just okay. It was NOT $11.50-OKAY. I would have probably been super disappointed if it hadn't been in 3D. So, my opinion is if you haven't seen a 3D movie, you should see it, just for that. It was really neat. If you want the good ol' Alice story, eh, not so much.

Outside Time!

Yesterday it was close to 70 outside and we took full advantage. After school/work, we got out Aidan's dumptruck and took a cruise around the block with the dogs. Speaking of dogs, Lola's homeless-haircut has sufficiently grown out enough that she can now be featured in photos: Once we got back home, it was time for the bike of course. Aidan is getting so good at it! He rode up and down the sidewalk FOREVER. I sat my happy-rear in a chair and supervised. Aidan had his little chair out too because "his legs got sooooo tired."
Lots of our neighbors were out so pretty soon we just brought out all the chairs and sat in the the driveway, very King of the Hill-esque. We are a classy bunch I tell you!! Aidan found his buddy Dani from a couple doors down and they had a blast. She chased him up and down the sidewalk on his bike and then they just chased each other around the yard.
There is pretty much not one single flattering angle of a pregnant woman at this time. I appeared to have eaten the Mizzou basketball my shirt is advertising :)
Dani LOVED little Lola. We had their leashed attached to Chad's car to prevent the crazy dogs from running rampant after the children, lol. Though I was just waiting for the second that Lacy ripped Chad's mirror off as I so intelligently hooked the 120 pound dog to the tiny side mirror :) Luckily, it didn't happen...

Aidan HAD to wear his John Deere gear outside. He was really mad that he didn't have any "John Deere shorts." I found these green plaid ones in a drawer and he said, "Oh those are JD shorts! They are green!!" Sweet. Works for me :)
He was also super proud that he found this ladybug and actually picked it up. He is not a fan of bugs, spiders, etc (ha, much like his father) so these are big steps, people!! He is talking a big game about catching lightning bugs this summer so we will see!
A shot of our wild beasts...
We are SO happy spring is here. The forecast for next week looks AMAZING so I am hoping they are not wrong!!!
Update from my doctor appointment: Not a whole damn lot...baby is growing, my gut is growing, everything looks good. Blood pressure good. I have gained 25 pounds. I feel like a whale. That's really about it. Oh, and I am completely over being pregnant :)

Just a couple pics

Here are some pics from a few weekends. The weekend before last Chad's parents came through for a quick visit. It was so pretty outside that Aidan had Grandpa running up and down the street on the scooter and bike. They both had lots of fun :)
This weekend, Aidan went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Hogue on Friday night. It was SOOOO nice out!! It was close to 70 degrees!! They had fun at the park amongst other things...just as making new super hero costumes ;) Chad and I went out for a date night. We went to D.Rowe's (one of our most favorite places) for some tasty ribs and steak. We were so stuffed afterwards that we went home to watch lots of basketball on the couch in our pajamas. We are out of control. We know. Aidan came home Saturday evening. We used Saturday to run all sorts of errands that we have been putting off. Sam's Club is much easier with grown ups only, lol. Aidan came home with all sorts of new treats. Exhibit A:
There we have the new Batman cape, belt, t-shirt, some Spiderman shorts and a sword. Quite the combination. My mom told me the shorts were too tight on him but he insisted on wearing them. So when we went to put on our REAL pajamas, he had red lines on him stomach where the shorts were "squeezing." I said to him, "whoa buddy, these are too small! Look at those marks, doesn't that hurt?" His response, "No, mom. It's okay. Dad's pants do that too." LOL He said the same thing earlier to Grandma too. Guess dad needs new pants too ; )

Aidan showing on his wingspan...
Batman and Batdog...poor Batdog, though the little Batdog got the short end of the stick...he chased her around for an hour with that sword...which is why there is no photo of him and little Batdog. She was hiding under the dining room table...
Saturday and Sunday we ended up getting 2 inches of snow?!?! It was WILD. Strangest weather I have ever seen. We haven't done a whole of anything too exciting lately. I am super tired most of the time and when we do get out and about, it isn't long before I am complaining to go home. We have about 7 weeks left before baby. I have an appointment today. I am very tired of being pregnant. I am currently in the crabby, not perky-happy preggo lady stage :)

Busy busy

I haven't taken many pics the last week or so. I had been battling a cold like no other and was pretty much stuck in bed all last weekend. We have been enjoying this awesome weather outdoors. Too bad we are supposed to get SNOW this weekend?!?! Will be back to regular posting next week :)

Birthday Weekend

This past weekend was my birthday. Friday night, Chad and I went out to dinner. Aidan had a slumber part with Lizzy and LOVED it...They went to Bonkers, made forts and went out to breakfast. He was zonked afterwards!! Saturday was absolutely gorgeous outside so we were able to get out a bit. Aidan got his scooter and bike out to give them a test run for the year. Here he is testing the ol' scooter...
He did a great job with his bike. We even had our first major crash, lol. I am sure he didn't find it very funny. Scared the daylights out of me, but he was just fine. We were going down the sidewalk and were getting to the corner so I tell him to hit the brakes (which he loves doing because it makes skid marks), but he just freaked and took his feet off the pedals, thus sending him ramping off the curb into the street, face first. I could have sworn he smacked his chin on the cement, but he must have caught himself somehow because he didnt have a scratch on him. He was scared, but uninjured. He got back on the bike and we all went around the block.

The dogs LOVED being outside...Lacy got a snazzy new hair cut :) ACTUALLY, Lola ended up with a haircut by the end of the day too, hers was just not quite as nice since I decided that I had the credentials to groom a dog. Needless to say, Lola looks like a homeless, battered dog now...so this is her "before" photo...there is no need for an after, it is that bad LOL...
Chad bought me some beautiful lillies for my birthday Sunday. I got my present early for the rodeo (my snappy boots)...they also got me a tasty cake
Aidan made me this giant card at Lizzy's house. He also gave me a cup decorated with his art...the card is hard to read but it says Happy birthday mom...
About to enjoy the cake!
It was a lovely weekend! My massage that Lizzy got me was AWESOME. Best thing ever!!
Today I had a doctor's appointment. Everything is good. I didn't gain any weight this visit. Baby Girl is measuring large AGAIN lol. She is currently head down. Not much else to report!! Doing good!!

"America" Idol

Aidan was telling us last night about the stuff in his classroom and how he showed Chad the Art Area and the globe. He said, "Yeah you can see where you live on the earth. There is Africa. We live in America, like America Idol." We laugh and say yeah. He follows that with a mouthful of pizza and says, "Yeah, I know everything." And continues his dinner uninterrupted :) It was pretty cute.

Aidan LOVES American Idol. He votes on every singer each week asking us, "yes or no?" a la audition week. He then tells us who he does and doesnt like. The first week he pledged his allegiance to Big Mike and Lilly (the blonde girl, I can't remember her last name). Well this week again, the first thing he does on elimination night is tell us how Lilly (he actually just points to her and says "that's my girl.") is his favorite. He calls it "The Singing Show" usually but he has started calling it "America Idol" too.

Sunday is my birthday! I must say THANK YOU to my sister for the best birthday present!! I am going tomorrow for an hour massage!!! She is also taking Aidan out tonight for some fun and he is having a sleepover there!! He is so excited. THANKS, LIZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Giddy Up!

This weekend we went to St. Louis to go to the Professional Bull Riders Enterprise Invitational. Or as we called it, the rodeo. We met Uncle Mark and Rebecca, Grandma and Grandpa Van Roekel, Rebecca's mom and sister, and her friend. It was such a fun time!! We had to get prepared for this adventure though. Our little family is (or should I say WAS) not owners of any type of rodeo apparel. Well, I took care of that for us :) After a quick, last-minute trip to the ol' boot store, the Van Roekels were ready to go. Aidan went with me and of course decided he needed some "cowboy clothes" too. We left with 3 pairs of boots, a big ol' belt/buckle and cowboy t-shirt for Aidan. Here are my snazzy new boots:Chad and Aidan's are a tad more understated :) So we met up at Union Station and hung around until it was time to go in. Chad and Mark were having a cowboy competition and I do believe Mark was the champion: Yee-haw. I wish the camera would have shown the gold cowboy boots Rebecca was wearing. They were awesome, lol...
One more shot of the Marlboro man...

Aidan testing his cowboy skillz...

So, I have never been to a rodeo before. Apparently this is like the grand daddy of rodeos. I must admit. It was so fun! Our seats were not with the rest of the group because we decided to go last minute. It ended up though that we had the best seats of all!! Aidan is waving at Uncle Mark from our seats...
They had quite a little "opening ceremony" for this event:

From our seats, we could see behind the curtain-thingy to see them loading up the bulls (NOT COWS, Kelley) and then we were right where they did their riding as well.
Aidan LOVED it all. He was so into it. We ended up leaving a bit before it was over because our little buddy couldn't keep his eyes open any longer. We had been going all day and no nap :( We got back home about midnight and Aidan was up and at 'em in the morning, playing cowboy ALL DAY. He had to put his jeans, boots, hat, etc back on and ride his 4-wheeler around the house, rounding up his bulls. Those poor dogs ;)
Here is a little video of what we saw:
